Review: Avene Compact SPF 50

The temperature is rising, the sun is shining, SUMMER is here! And I’m back today with a review of a must have product for the season; a compact foundation with SPF 50.

This is a mineral sunscreen which comes in a purse friendly compact packaging with a mirror and a sponge. It is formulated with Avene Thermal Spring water, which soothes and softens your skin, as well as Pre-Tocopheryl, which is a photostable of vitamin E, to give you antioxidant protection. It is non-comodogenic, paraben-free, fragrance-free (ok, we’ll see about that!) and water resisant. It comes in two shades and I got it in the lightest one which is sable.

For the record, I have combo/oily skin and I mostly seek matte finish bases. This promises you a matte finish and a cream-to-powder application. Well, I didn’t find it that powdery, on the contrary, I don’t dare to go out without powdering on top! It does feel a little sticky when you first apply it, like a sunscreen would feel. Also, the fragrance-free bit is not entirely true. I can definitely smell a slight scent which becomes worse throughout the day, especially if you spend some time under the sun or sweat a bit! The shade selection is limited to only two and to be honest the fairest one that I got is a tad dark for me right now but I can work with it if I blend it really well down the neck! It’s not very blendable, it tends to sit wherever you’ve dabbed it and you need to work really quickly with it. You just need the tiniest bit for your whole face though which is a plus.

Now that I’ve argued with half of the company’s statements for the product I can say that I really like this one! I’ve been testing it for a week now and I can safely say that it is really cool. I like having a foundation with that high SPF in it and having two products in one really; I find it very convenient in the morning. I apply it with my Real Techniques Buffing brush and I find that the coverage is pretty decent as well. I would put it under the light coverage category but it is buildable. The only thing that kind of bothers me is the scent and this will put me off from wearing it at the beach but I have worn it to the gym and it was intact; that must say something about the water-resistant statement!

I would totally recommend this product and I now consider it a staple for summer! I got mine from Pharmacy295.gr for 12.54€.

Have you tried it? What do you think about it?
