This post is dedicated to
the heroes of my makeup drawer
throughout 2013. This year was more of a skincare revelation one, however as I
was searching through my stash, I realised that I did try a good amount of
makeup items that I kept coming back to over the year.
First up comes the face
makeup. As you might have noticed if you follow me on Instagram (and if you don’t
you might want to since I post lots of photos of makeup and my everyday life, it's @chgeorgina) I’ve
been travelling a lot around the world during 2013. Travelling is a big part of
my job as well as being pretty and polished. The one and only Lioele BB cream got
me through the year with important work meetings and presentations by
completely camouflaging my breakouts and with an SPF of 50 it had me covered
for the dangerous Greek sun. This is by far the best BB cream I’ve ever tried, and
I’ve tried a lot! For the days that I needed that extra coverage the Collection
Lasting Perfection concealer was my savior (you can read a full review and
where to get hold of it here). Great coverage, extra creamy and very blendable
it just does the job wonderfully. And to set everything, Rimmel London’s Stay MattePowder, which kept the shine away for at least 4 hours. The Essence Sun Club Matt
Bronzing Powder for lighter skin was a new addition to my stash, after the
recommendation of Mara from MyBurlesque, and I was really impressed. I feel
very lucky that I have that much left because I’ve heard that it has been
discontinued. If they ever bring it back, I believe it is a great value for
money as it retails for about 3€ for 15grs. In terms of blush, I couldn’t
decide between these two. I wore the ELF Pink Passion non stop during the
summer. It is the perfect pink on your cheeks, the one that makes you look naturally
blushed and healthy. Also, the Fashionista Blushers in general were a wonderful
addition to my collection; extra pigmented and wonderful colour range for only
1.65£ (currently on offer). The one I picked up the most was Butterscotch, the perfect everyday shade.
For eye makeup, the love
affair with my MUA Heaven and Earth palette (full review and swatches here)
continued, and since they are not the
most pigmented eye shadows on earth, but I still can’t justify 45€ to get the
Urban Decay one, I used to wear the
Maybelline Colour Tatoo in On and On Bronze/ Back to the Bronze for that extra
colour payoff. I wore it on its own as well on the “off” days, since it’s a
really creamy and blendable eye shadow. For eyeliner, I fell in love with the
Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eyeliner Pen which is exactly what it
says; it stays on no matter whether you decide to take it off or not! It is
very precise and has never flaked or smudged on me; really affordable too. My
eyebrows were taken care of with another Essence product, the Eyebrow Stylist
set which comes with a bunch of stencils and an angled brush which I’ve lost in
the way, and the combination of these two powders is the perfect for my
everyday eyebrow routine. Last but not least is the Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky
Lash Waterproof mascara (read full review here) that is the only one that I’ve
ever repurchased and really made my lashes stand out in 2013.
The hardest bit was lip
products. It was really hard for me to pick my favourites so I decided to go
with my favourite formulas throughout the year. The best discovery was the
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Cherish, which now permanently lives
in my bag. These products are so pigmented and moisturizing that are perfect
for every makeup look without ever having to worry about reapplying. The Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquers were exactly what it says on the tube; an apocalypse!
They are the most pigmented liquid lipsticks I’ve ever put on my lips, really moisturizing
and wet and with the shine of a gloss. My favourite one has to be Nova, which is
a nice wearable muted pink with blue undertones. I was blown away by the
formula and the great staying power of the Rimmel London Kate by Kate MossLasting Finish Lipsticks as well. Apart from the simple and cute packaging that says “Kate”
on it, these lipsticks are by far the best ones to meet my lips! They stay on
for ages, they are creamy and the colour pigmentation is wonderful for the price.
The one on the picture is No22, but I own like 6 of them and cherish them all.
These were my makeup
favourites for the year 2013. Let me know in the comments below your favourites,
because obviously I always like picking up new makeup. Have any of my favourites
rocked your world as well?
